Hi everyone,
This week’s theme is “a little kindness goes a long way”.
The following excerpt is paraphrased from a book called Drops of Nectar. Someone gave me this story so I’m not sure of the author. It might be “Shiva Rea”.
“In New York, Chush is a school that caters to learning disabled children. Shaya is a student at the school and his father tells a story about how “a little kindness goes a long way”. He starts by saying, “I believe that when a child, who society may label as “imperfect”, is brought into the world, the perfection is in the way people react to this child”.
One day Shaya passed a baseball park and asked his father if he could play. His father knew that Shaya was not athletic but he asked the boys if his son could play anyway. They agreed. The team was down by six runs in the eighth inning so it was no big deal. Then, the team made a comeback and tied the game in the ninth inning! There were two outs, bases loaded and Shaya was due up to bat. His father thought, “the kids, would never take a chance on Shaya?” But, they did!
Shaya walked up to the plate and the pitcher moved closer to lob the ball to the catcher. Shaya swung clumsily and missed. Then, a boy on his team helped him swing the bat and he made contact. The opposing team threw the ball all over the field so that Shaya could run to home. Grandslam! All the boys lifted him up like he was a hero.
“That day,” said the father softly, “those 18 boys reached their level of perfection.”
Remember, kindness always comes full circle.
