Just a Dad

Yesterday I left my home in NJ, saying goodbye to my family, work team, friends. I then visited with a dear friend who is battling his health, and perhaps the bravest person I know in the world right now.

The weather was in the 90’s as I drove to Newark airport in massive traffic, about to face a 5+ hour flight to Portland, Oregon. And yet, I was at peace knowing I was embarking on a journey for the right reasons with the full support of people I love and respect.

Today I woke up in a new city that is calm, 55 degrees, coffee-based, and environmentally-focused.

Tomorrow morning I will be meeting cyclists from around the country and world as we embark together traveling 3,700 miles east to Portland, Maine.  My inspiration is my oldest daughter and the courage she has shown in her health recovery, as well as what she has done to inspire others.  My journey will honor her and hopefully get others thinking of what is truly important in their lives.

Truth be told I am not an expert cyclist, just a Dad who wants to face a challenge that truthfully is beyond my comprehension. But as I slide my feet into my biking shoes and hydrate along the way, this picture represents the simplicity of facing the most challenging physical feat of my entire life.

I am excited, motivated, mentally prepared, but at the same time scared, and that may be my greatest motivation.

So as we all face another day in our lives I hope you follow me on this journey.  My goal is to live these next 45 days with a steadfast purpose and urge others to do the same.

22 hours and counting…and lets all get to it, together…

Dan
