Today was day 2 of riding but really day 1…
We rode from Astoria, OR back to Portland, OR and it covered 99 miles. The route brought all that biking can offer. It was a long day but a good day.
Hills to go up, hills to go down, nature at its finest along the way in 6-0ish degree, no humidity weather.
I saw beautiful natural forests today. And as I, painfully at times, pedaled up 9+degree-grade hills, I got lost in the beautiful smell of trees, specifically the abundance of birch trees (my favorite tree) which I don’t see much in New Jersey.
Mostly it was a day to physically and mentally grind out an athletic feat that took all that my body could muster.
Lastly, and most importantly, I am blessed by all the good wishes and inspirational messages I have and continue to receive. Although I am biking alone, I feel the presence of so many with me.
Enclosed is a snapshot of my daily ride, and the elevation ups and downs over the course of the ride. In addition there is a picture of my lucky wrist band that a dear friend gave to all our family. We wear them in support of each other until we reunite soon…
Niner held up nicely today, and she needs to give me 43 more day. I will check in tomorrow on what will be a beautiful ride to Hood River, OR. Look forward to a picture of one of the many beautiful waterfalls.
Love to all,
Dan
