Gotta Keep it Real

Today’s ride was an adventure on many fronts…

It started with a long, steep climb, then after the descent I got separated from my group. It was my fault, but I was on my own for 30 long miles.  Good news is I am now well-versed with my bike Garmin and I stayed calm until I got back on track.

You’ll see Mike and Scott pictured with me at the end of the ride (Mike was the riding guide and Scott was van support).  I look fresh as a daisy after 109 miles! 😀

Getting lost also forced me to take a few pictures of the scenery, including one of the Oregon Trail.  Oregon literally has had no rain and the normally green grass is fire-ready brown.

Couple fun facts I want to mention:

1) Hood River (yesterday’s stop, located on the Columbia River) is the self-proclaimed wind surfing capital of the world.

2) For the first time, I was given ear plugs at the hotel desk. The nearby train ran all throughout the night, but shockingly I slept fine.

3) Boardman, OR is known for their tree farms.

Today’s last 55 miles were on hot (95 degrees), noisy, and dirty I-84 (yes the same one which heads back home). While not pleasant, it was the only route available today. Tomorrow, as we head to Walla Walla, WA, we will be back to a natured-filled, gorgeous ride.

By the way, Walla Walla is known for their onions and, speaking of my ample derrière (aka rear onions in bike-speak), I’m a little sore after today’s lengthy adventure.

Gotta keep it real. Onto state number two of the trip tomorrow.

Love,

Dan
