Hi everyone,
Today’s theme is “make a difference”.
I listened to an inspiring speaker this summer and she gave all of those in attendance a starfish and the following excerpt from Loren Eisley’s The Star Thrower:
“A little boy is walking on the beach with his father. The beach is littered with starfish and, as they walk, the boy picks up one after another and throws it back into the ocean.
After a while, his father asks what he’s doing and the little boy says, “Throwing starfish into the water. The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them in, they’ll die.”
“But,” says his father, “don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? You can’t possibly make a difference.”
“But,” the boy replies as he bends down and throws another starfish into the ocean, “I made a difference to that one.”
This week if you come across someone who has lost his/her way, make an effort to guide him/her back on the path they seek.
